         Finding Your First Boat
         Important Considerations When Purchasing Your
           First Boat

1.    Every boat is a compromise. Make sure you make the right ones.

2.
How much money is comfortable for you to buy a boat? How  much is comfortable for you to spend on your boat monthly?  There is a boat available for virtually every pocketbook. You might have to compromise on the bells and whistles, or you might have to go with the 22’ instead of the 25’, but together we can find the boat for you.

3.    Your boat will usually be used for more than one activity. Make sure you choose a boat suited to your “primary” activity.

4.    How many people will be riding in your boat? Will there be children aboard? The more people you have aboard the larger the boat must be.

5.    Manufacturers measure their boats differently. One company’s 30-footer might be another company’s 27’ model. Make sure to get aboard and see for yourself how much room is really there.

6.    Where and how often will you be using your boat? Be sure to purchase a boat that’s built and equipped accordingly.

7.    How much time will you spend on your boat at a single stretch? Three hours? Six hours? Six days? Think about it and make sure that your boat has the room, storage capacity and the required necessities for your time aboard.

8.    What about insurance? If you finance your new boat, insurance is mandatory, but in any case insuring your new boat is a very wise choice. The cost of insurance varies according to the boat you purchase, your age and boating experience, as well as where the boat will be stored and used. We will be happy to help you contact an insurance agent who can answer your questions, and provide coverage.

9.    What about the maintenance and operation costs? These costs can vary by a large margin. You must consider the boat, how it will be used, and how much it will be used. Nevertheless, boats require (at least) an annual service, as well as fuel, oil, cleaning, and storage. These are costs that must be considered when making your purchase.

10.  Consider the dealer. Is the dealer well established? Are the service department, parts department, and sales professionals ready and capable to provide the service and support necessary for a pleasant and safe boating experience?

11.  Consider the manufacturer. Is the manufacturer well established, with a good reputation for quality, dependability, and service?

12.  We understand that price is important; however, don’t make the mistake of purchasing your boat based on price alone. Many times, that will turn boat ownership from pleasure to headache.
